Some Funnies, Weekend Plans, Silly Neighbor, an Impossible Question, & a Conversation with Scout

Sheesh . . . looks like I've got a lot to cover! So without further ado . . .

* Since this is the Friday before a college football game weekend, thought I'd share these FUNNIES that my Dad emailed to me. Now I personally know of a lot of SMART athletes, but these quotes show you that there are also plenty of STUPID ones out there. Enjoy these priceless quotes . . .

--New Orleans Saint RB George Rogers when asked about the upcoming season: “I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first.”

-- Football commentator and former player Joe Theismann, 1996: “Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.”

-- Senior basketball player at the University of Pittsburgh: “I’m going to graduate on time, no matter how long it takes.”

-- Bill Peterson, a Florida State football coach: “You guys line up alphabetically by height.” And, “You guys pair up in groups of three, and then line up in a circle.”

-- Stu Grimson, Chicago Blackhawks left wing, explaining why he keeps a color photo of himself above his locker: “That’s so when I forget how to spell my name, I can still find my clothes.”

-- Chuck Nevitt, North Carolina State basketball player, explaining to Coach Jim Valvano why he appeared nervous at practice: “My sister’s expecting a baby, and I don’t know if I’m going to be an uncle or an aunt.”

- Frank Layden, Utah Jazz president, on a former player: “I told him, ‘Son, what is it with you? Is it ignorance or apathy?’ He said, ‘Coach,I don’t know and I don’t care.’“

* The weekend is fast approaching and what's going on in our lives? WEEKEND PLANS are pretty much the same ole same ole. It's a football weekend, but I'm giving up my tickets to the Alabama-Duke game so that I can watch a significant amount of Delaney's softball games at her tournament this weekend and see most of McKenna's band competition as well. I, of course, will be running to and fro like a chicken with its head cut off to make it to everything, but if everything goes as planned I should be able to watch at least two full games (maybe 3) of Delaney's and see most of McKenna's competition on Saturday.

In between those things, I'd really like to see some of the Texas-Oklahoma game (Hook em Horns!), hear Bama beat up on Duke (which we BAD need to do), and watch the Cowboys-Eagles game on Sunday (Go Boys!). And, hopefully, we'll get a night at Habaneros with some friends tonight!

* I have a SILLY NEIGHBOR. A lot of you may know that Adrienne is my next-door neighbor and, even though we live next door, we communicate a lot through email! You may also know, from reading her blog, that she is a Grey's Anatomy addict. Well, yesterday around 3 p.m., our cable and internet both decided to go out (NOT a good thing, since I had a VERY unhappy 2-year-old who wanted to watch tv and a VERY unhappy 14-year-old who needed to do a ton of homework for her Debate Team on the Internet).

At around 7 p.m, the phone rings and a nervous Adrienne asks Gary if our cable's out; yes, he answers and they hang up; about 10 minutes later, the cable comes back on and Gary calls Adrienne back, only to be greeted by a very loud "YAYYYY!!!" which I could hear across the room. The funniest thing was the email I had received from Adrienne maybe an hour before, but couldn't read until our email came back available. The subject line read: "AAAAAACCCCCCKKKKK!" and the email read something to the effect of, "Is your cable out? Wait, if it is you can't even be reading this!! Oh no, Not on a Thursday night!!!!!"

But, the TV gods were watching out for her, and the cable came back only 10 minutes into GA!

She cracks me up!

* My last two IMPOSSIBLE QUESTIONS have been big hits, with a lot of post-ers jumping in and trying to guess the correct answers. Give this one a go and let's see who answers correctly first.

The Question this week:

What is the most popular item sold at movie theatre concession stands?

Sounds pretty easy, huh? Leave your guess and I'll update when someone has guessed the right answer! Good luck!

(UPDATE ADDED--
Okay, I leave for like an hour to go buy Goobers (Thanks, Phats, for that inspiration! I read your guess and had to go buy me some. LOL!!) and all of a sudden a ton of you come on and make some guesses.

Two of you were correct (actually, three of you if you count the indecisive guess of Jenn!). My Mom, Cindy, and Jenn (I think!) all correctly guessed RASINETTES! Okay, that was really kind of a surprise for me, since I don't eat the things. But, apparently, a heck of a lot of other people do!

Great job gals!!)

* Scout is still enamored with her pirate costume for Halloween and is happy to tell anyone (the Dairy Queen cashier, people at church, her grandmother on the phone) about it. And she's quite enamored as well by what the rest of us need to "be" for Halloween. Wednesday night, Gary and I had this CONVERSATION with her . ..

Scout enters the room, jumping up and down.
S: "I'm a kangaroo."
Me: "That's great, Sydney. I like kangaroos."
S: "Kangaroos jump like frogs. Poppy's gonna be a frog."
Me: "Poppy's gonna be a frog. What do you mean?"
S: "For Ha-wa-ween. He be a frog."
Me: "Gary, did you hear that? You're gonna be a frog."
G: "Hmm, a frog. What's Mommy gonna be?"
S: "She gonna be a teh-eey bear."
Me: "A teddy bear?"
S: "A pink teh--eey bear."
Me: "What about La-la?" (S calls Delaney "la la")
S: "La la gonna be a sippa."
(Note here: after several discussions, trying to determine what she was saying, we never figured out what this was. We thought maybe a zebra. Nope! Even a zipper, perhaps. Nope? So we're still not sure.)
G: "What about Pia? What's she gonna be?" (S calls McKenna "Pia" for some odd, unknown reason.)
S: "She gonna be a gurl."
Me: "That sounds like a good thing to be for Halloween. A girl. Because she is a girl."
S: "Yep."
Me: "What are we gonna do on Halloween?"
S: "Say, Twick or Tweet. And get canny. And I gonna be a Pirate."
Me: "What do pirates say?
S: "Aaarrrr. Twick or tweet."

So, there you have it--part of a normal conversation with my cute, precocious two-year-old. According to her, we have big plans for Halloween and she, apparently, will be the only one appropriately dressed up. She'll be a pirate, while the rest of us will be a frog, pink teddy bear, sippa (whatever the heck that is!), and a girl.

------

Hope all of you have a wonderful weekend! I may be away from the computer pretty much all weekend, but hope to pop in here and there when I can.

Have fun and stay safe!!

(By the way, Gary--I LOVE YOU!!!)

I don't think you're gonna miss much giving up your tickets. If you don't clobber Duke you should be kicked out of the SEC haha!

Grey's was REALLY good tonight, I have the biggest crush on Izzie.

My Answer is Goobers.

Tell your daugthers, I am game for anything the crazier the better with the costume.

Love your impossible questions feature! I am guessing popcorn or is that too obvious? Never knew Adrienne was your neighbour, what a small world.

Phats--you're SO right! I still hate to miss games--you know, the atmosphere and fun and everything!!
Delaney's first idea for your costume is that you should a be a Dead Cheerleader (HA!), but said she'd try and think of some other ideas!
Jane--It is a small world! When I began blogging, I found out Adrienne blogs too. And, of course, we are scrapping buddies!
Neither ofyour answers are right! Sorry!!!

My guess is M&M's on the impossible question.

message to Scout: I've often wanted to be a sippa for Halloween but just can't get the costume right. Any tips?

Popcorn seems like it would be the easy answer so it is probably something else so I will say gummy bears.
