Happy 40th Anniversary, Mom and Dad!!!

January 25, 1967 . . .

Forty years ago, Mom and Dad got married in Point, Texas . . . they had known each for just three months, meeting and falling in love at first sight while students at East Texas State University . . . two children, five grandchildren later, they are still going strong . . . committed to each other . . . committed to their family . . . committed to their faith . . . they are a wonderful example of a couple who live life together to the fullest . . .

I can TRULY and HONESTLY say that I only have happy memories of my childhood and growing-up years. I feel sad for people who regret the relationships they've had with their parents, or who were raised in "dysfunctional" homes, because I know what it's like to have a family that does truly support you and help you become the kind of person you need to be. My parents have taught me so much over the years--how to laugh, how to treat other people, how to cheer for the right sports teams, how to pray, how to use my intellect, how to appreciate your blessings, how to handle tragedies and support one another, how to live . . .

I love you, Mom and Dad! (And so does the rest of the gang!!)

(We will have a celebration for them on Saturday; I have several "surprises" planned for them, but will--obviously, since Mom lurks on my blog--tell you all about them later!)

There is only one happiness in life,
to love and be loved.

Marriage is not a ritual or an end.
It is a long, intricate,
intimate dance together
and nothing matters more
than your own sense of balance
and your choice of partner.

This was such a beautiful post Cheryl. You are truly blessed but they are blessed as well. You are a wonderful woman and a great testiment to what they wanted you to be.

I believe you biggest supporters are your parents. The values they have passed a long to you, will be the same values your children will benefit from. It's a gift that keeps on giving.

I came from a broken home but sometimes that isn't such a bad thing. It makes you want more for your own children. It also tends to keep you grounded. I know I never take anything for granted when it comes to my children.

I hope your Momma and Poppa have a wonderful anniversary!! They deserve all of the happiness in the world!! Congrats to them!!

Congratulations to your parents. How wonderful! My folks had 69 married years and a couple years dating prior to that before they left us. Love, commitment, acceptance, patience. It's not easy to make it work, and I have great admiration for those who do. :)
