Welcome to Delaney's New Room . . .

Okay, so you never saw the old one so you don't really know how much we're liking her new room . . . but thought I'd give you a little peek into it.

The pic above is the view coming into her room, cool retro-beads hanging from her doorway and all.

About four years ago, we redid her room as a Spongebob Squarepants room complete with stenciled fish on the wall (the room was light blue and yellow) . . .

But she's now 10 and decided that there needed to be a BIG change to her room. After checking out all the cool color chips at the paint store, she decided that hot pink and lime green were the way to go--each on opposite walls.

So, the process began . . . (look at that pile of stuff in the middle of the room! painting was just half of the battle, the other half was getting rid of all of the junk she had!)

You never really know how a paint color is going to look as you get started, but I did have a feeling that this was going to be a very bright room! lol Here I am working on the first coat (and, oh how lovely I look with the hair-in-a-light-socket look! But, you know, you can't look like a blogging celebrity without a little bit of hot pink paint mixed in with your wild gray hair!) . . .

Now the chosen THeMe of choice for Delaney's room was Celebrity-Singing-Styling! Delaney wanted a dressing area, a design area, and a singing area (so she has her desk with her stuff for drawing her designs, her karaoke machine, and a canopy with a mirror inside. The plan is to be looking for a dressing screen for that corner, but I haven't found it yet) . . .

I though that the most inspired idea of the day was putting the CDs all over the wall . . .

A peek at her curtains . . .

I even painted her closet door frame . . .

Even a "celebrity" has to have her multitude of softball trophies on display (because, as well as being a girly-girl, she is my big-time athlete!) . . .

A peek at her bed (she decided that she wanted a bed that was low to the ground--kind of like a stage, she said--so we decided to just go with mattresses on the floor. And she loves it!) . . .

The view out of her window . . .

Okay, when the lights go out is when the room really looks awesome!! I won some pink Christmas lights from Amy's blog, and I found the perfect use for them! They surround the wall with her Hannah Montana poster . . .

and around the edge to the door . . .

I'm SO glad to have most of the room done! There's nothing like an unfinished project that just gets under my skin, and this one was postponed for like two whole weeks during Christmas, so I'm HAPPY to get it done (although there's still more to go!)

Well, today the kids are out of school for Martin Luther King Jr. Day so we're going to enjoy some time relaxing and enjoying ourselves. We're planning on going to the park (since the weather is just gorgeous) and probably to the Civil Rights Institute later today (it's free today for MLK Day, which is great!).

Had planned on posting a little more about MLK Day, but I did want to mention that it is an important day for me. And to celebrate, I'm going to . . .

* Celebrate and enjoy our diversity

* Treasure all of my friendships

* Continue to teach my children that character, not color, is what's important!

I hope all of you had a fantastic weekend and have a great Monday!

I saw the CD ideo on trading spaces one time. They did a whole room in cds! It was on every inch of the walls! It was for a small boy, like 6 years old or something. So, the parents didn't like it at first, but I think it grew on them. I liked your idea much better! : )
It looks beautiful.

What a cute new room! I need to get off of my butt and redo Anna's room. She's 11 and wants a new look too. Her room is small and I'm not sure what all we could do, but there are tons of possibilities, I'm sure!
