It's a True Battle Royale!
~The Duel of the Chocolate Snack Cakes~

I ventured to the store yesterday with a single purpose in mind--to get my hot little hands on these little lovelies.

I had seen a commercial for them and knew I HAD to try them. I could only imagine their chocolatey goodness!

And they did not disappoint!

But...

in a Face-Off with my all-time favorite chocolate snack cake, how would they fare?

Yes, the classic Hostess Ding Dong owns that special place in my heart (and on my thighs!) reserved for pre-packaged, snack cake yumminess! Little Debbie has tried over the years to take that place, but to no real avail (Debbie's cakes are just a little too "fake" tasting).

But...the Oreo Cakester brings some strong competition.

The verdict?

If you love Oreos, you will love the Cakesters. The filling is true Oreo filling and the cake is dense and rich. They come two to a pack and I had a hard time eating the second one because it was so sweet (but I trudged through the effort and ate them both! Aren't you so proud to call me friend?).

But the Ding Dong offers a creamier filling (which I prefer, I think!) and there's something about that flaky layer of chocolate over the cake.

It's a hard decision, though, so I leave it up to you.

Go today and get your hands on both the Cakester and the Ding Dong. And make your verdict.

(And, I know, I know. . . I post way too much about food!)

I stole a pack to take to work with me today. I'm going to have a cup of coffee and try one.....

I can honestly say that I like the Oreo Snack Cakes better. I sat down with a cup of coffee and tried them. They are great, but a little small...

I'm a little biased.. I have a hard time eating anything called a "Ding Dong" to start with ... It's right there with Goobers when we are at the theater. I mean, couldn't they come up with a better name for chocolate cover peanuts???

ok--I have been resisting the temptation to try them...but I may have to give in!!!

I will live vicariously through you.

Rhonda--Don't fight it. Give in!

She-ra--Live vicariously through me all you want! I have NO willpower when it comes to sweets!

I'm thinking I'll just stick with Ding dongs because I don't think I could handle oreos in any but their original form (cuz i'm addicted to those babies). BTW I talk more about food on your site then I do IRL. LOL. Whaz up wit dat?

Hey girl, where's your tag response. Dying to see that funniness

Well, I had ignored the lure of the commercials about Cakesters, but now ... NOW I think I have to go to the store today! Fie upon thee, Cheryl!! And considering my change of fortitude after reading this, perhaps the company should hire you to write their commercials!!!

Hey Cheryl! I wanted to email you about the Braves game last night but now I have to comment on the cakesters! My Johnny boy works @ Nabisco SO you know we're all over those little cakes! Love them!!
last night the R Braves are in the Governor's Cup against the Durham Bulls and guess who was sitting right in front of me!! 4, count em, 4 Atlanta Braves pitchers!! We talked and joked with them through out the game! Such nice young men...with their big ole bling bling watches! They are in DC to play the Nationals tonight so they drove down to support the R Braves. How awsome is that!

I like those cakesters...not as much as the true cookies, though.
I do not think they stand up to Ding Dongs, though.

Ding Dongs would win out anytime.

I can't try any new junk! My all time fave obsession are those carmel cakes. I can't even have them in the house or i will eat the whole box! They are truly the one thing that kills all my willpower. Okay that and frozen chocolate chip cookie dough from pilsbury, yum!! Rats now i want a snack!!

Linda--If you like the original cookies, you would LOVE these things! lol (I'll get to the tag...I promise! Just wanting to find the right time!)

Lynilu--I could seriously write marketing materials for food companies!

Nina--That is SO cool about the Braves pitchers! I will Delaney about it and she will be extremely jealous!

Adrienne--Go get some! lol

India--Ha! i have my priorities straight, don't I?

Crazy--Yay for Ding Dongs!

Heather--Yummy on the frozen cookie dough too!

Oh PLEASE NO! I have way too many things like this that I can't live without (well... in my mind anyway) already. Is there a 12 step program to get over these yet? :-)

I forgot about the hard chocolate on the Ding Dongs. Yum, takes me back to re-runs of "Batman" after school. I used to eat Ding Dongs and watch "Batman" and then "I Dream of Jeannie".

Oh the simple things in life...

I haven't tried these yet, but they DO appeal to me. I had a chocolate covered oreo at the candy store the other day. Yum - chocolate on top of chocolate!

Thanks for visiting my blog today. I don't know if I can come back here again if you talk much about GOOD CHOCOLATE COOKIES!
The older you get the more stuff like that you have to give up.

Beautiful scrapbook pages!

Can someone explain how, all of a sudden, Oreos are everywhere? There are these new Oreo cake things (and why isn't there one stuff with Peanut Butter since you can get them in Oreo-white filling and choclate filling?). There's a "desert pizza" (from Dominos I think) made out of Oreos. There some other new Oreo thing I've seen this week on TV, and I'm blanking on it right now... Oreo's are yummy... but this glut of new Oreo products is sorta crazy.

This doesn't have to do with your post...but with tomorrow...GO HOGS!

Are you going to the game? I wish it was here in Fayetteville!

Thanks so much, Cheryl, for doing the "taste test". I was wondering how those cakesters are!

Cheryl, you're scaring me. Do you realize that you just did an ENTIRE post about snack cakes??? LOL
Well, let me be the first to say...IT'S ABOUT TIME SOMEONE DID!!! LOL

You are too funny. I've seen the commercials for the Oreo cakes and I was wondering what the filling would be like. And I'm SO glad you've "filled me in" (so to speak). Now, I don't have to try them. Because, like you, I like the filling that's in the Hostess cakes better.

Thank you for being our official taste tester...You rock! (well, you'll need to rock after eating a box of snack cakes) :-)

Ok, I just read some of the comments...and I laughed OUT LOUD at Gary's comment about "Ding Dongs"! TOO FUNNY!!! That is SO something my hubby would say :-).

Thanks for making the Ultimate Sacrifice to answer One Of Life's Big Questions! :) My hips especially thank you. :D I am going to work hard to ignore those babies for the next few years, if they're that good. ;)

Thanks for visiting my blog -- even though you didn't win, feel free to pass along the niceness & do a giveaway on your blog, if you're so inclined. If the other bloggers ahead of you don't post to their blogs about giving away creative stuff, I'll let you know! :D

You know, of course, that there is a special place for you in an extremely WARM location...a place where the bellhop has horns and likes to dress in red!

I was doing so good tonight with not ripping apart my pantry looking for much un-needed snacks but you've blown all that. I've really got to work on my self-control. Honestly, this is pathetic. But Ding-Dongs! Who could resist the thought of them? Obviously not me. Gotta go. The pantry's calling me...
