One Little Word creations and my Saturday Scrappy Class

Well, I promised to return with some of my latest scrapbooking creations. So...here I am! lol

You all know that I like to participate in a lot of the scrapbook challenges on different blogs and websites, but I just haven't had too much time lately to do them. In fact, I was already one word behind at one of my faves--the One Little Word challenge blog. So, I decided to try and catch back up and I actually did the current word and the previous word I had missed.

The current word there is "Gone," and this is what I created. I have to say that this is now currently my favorite layout (although my "fave" changes almost as soon as I do a new one). But I LOVE this one, because it really illustrates what I think is the true reward for scrapbooking--capturing my feelings and also capturing moments in time.

Look at those pictures on the page!! That's me and McKenna back in 1992, when she was just three-months-old. Look how tiny she is...how young I am!...and how sweet that is!

When I saw that picture and then found a recent favorite picture of McKenna (taken just a week or so ago, when she was all dressed up in her Bama garb)...it just HIT ME and I knew how I wanted to use the word "gone" on a scrapbook page. I looked at the two pictures and realized that a special moment and a special "age" was gone...but that's not a bad thing. Because I SO love the young lady McKenna has and is becoming.

The journaling says it all:
"Gone are the days of baby sounds, smells, and feelings. At the time, I thought there could be nothing sweeter. But now, fifteen years later, I see that change is good and love just grows with time. No, McKenna's not a cuddly newborn anymore, but she's much more. Now a teenager, she's independent, strong, and definitely 'herself.' Fifteen years go by so quickly...in a flash, really...but that's not a bad thing. I can remember my feelings at the time of that first photo, but that was then. This is now, and in many, many ways, the change is sweeter and better."

And then I wanted to catch back up and do the prior word, which was "Perfect." I initially thought of all these meaningful pages I could do about life. But then it just hit me when I saw this "perfect" bed-jumping picture of Delaney. Ha!! So, this is what I did...

The journaling on it says: "Sure, I could have written about the perfect day, or the perfect family, even the perfect book. But instead I thought ofour bed jumping tradition. And I think this jump by Delaney may be the most perfect so far!"

And then I wanted to tell you all about a class I'm teaching this Saturday at Scrapbook Mania. It's called "Fast & Easy Scrapbook Pages" and I'm going to focus on different tips/techniques for getting pretty pages done quick (because, cmon on, who has time to spend hours on a page? I know that I don't!) I'm gonna talk about some quick techniques, and then we're gonna do three layouts that take around 30 minutes each to do.

Here is one of the layouts for the class. How SUPER easy is this? It uses one of the tips I'm going to talk about, which is: "Don't be afraid to break the rules." One of the "rules" is that you have to have a title on your page. Well, on this one I don't! It saves time to not have one, but the page still looks good!

(Btw, the journaling on it says: "We are Bama fans, through and through. The highlight of Fall is going to all the home games. Here we are decked out for the Arkansas game in '07. An exciting game, and a great time together.")

The next layout is another one we're doing for the class. (I shared it already here a week or so ago, but thought I'd pop it on here too.)

Thanks for letting me share some of those creations with you. If you are a scrapbooker or an otherwise crafty or creative person, I'd love to know what sorts of projects you're working on. It inspires me to see other people's creativity in motion!

That's like having instant quick growing cement. One day she's 3 months old and the next she's 15 years old. Hmmmm I wonder if my salary will do the same??? I can have my dreams can't I ;-)

Cheryl,

I totally LOVE your "gone" layout! You are right! That is what scrapbooking is all about.

Your pages are so fun! I really enjoy seeing what each person does with "One Little Word". It's amazing how one word can mean something different to so many different people!

Glad you are caught up now!

I love to scrapbook but I haven't done anything in ages. I really need to get back to that, though.

Everytime I see you talking about the bed-jumping, I'm reminded of an incident that happened in Selma. We (the whole family)had gathered there for my grandpa's funeral. There were so many of us that we practically took over one side of the Holiday Inn there. While all the little kids were running around, in and out of rooms, I was quite busy patting myself on the back and thinking just how well behaved my little darlings were. Right up until the 2 youngest came up to me in the courtyard (where ALL of us were gathered) to confess that they'd SHATTERED the bed frame of one of the beds in my cousins room. They'd all been jumping up and down like wild indians and, apparently, the Holiday Inn in Selma, Alabama was still using wooden bed frames that were probably installed back in the 70's. Man, I was so embarrassed! My little darlin's....little did I know that their zeal would have been considered award worthy by some people! lol
