A few reflections from the week, as I move into the weekend...

So good...

A new refrigerator! Our old one was not cooling like it should be; the ice maker was broken; and things were beginning to drip out of it. Can you say, "Yuck!"? So you can probably understand my sheer joy at getting a brand-new refrigerator.

Not so good...

The girls deciding that my bedroom was the place to practice throwing McKenna's winterguard "rifle" (a prop rifle that they spin and throw in the air), resulting in a broken side table.

Good...

Some of the yummy stuff that I made this week. (I'm seriously into a making-dinner-instead-of-buying-fastfood phase right now). During the week, I made homemade taco soup, fried green tomatoes, and baked cheesecake among other things. I've also been making smoothies almost every morning and loving them (my girls are not breakfast-eaters until a little bit later in the morning, so shakes and smoothies are my best way to get the girls to "eat/drink" something healthy to start the day. (Maybe I'll share some recipes some time, if any of you are interested.)

Good...

Getting two new article assignments.

Good...

Having another awesome episode of "Lost" to watch, and absorb, and question, and puzzle over, and love!!!

Not so good...

Having to seriously get onto McKenna and Delaney for their attitudes toward each other. How can they get along so well one moment and then the next be saying very critical things about each other, rolling their eyes toward one another, and basically acting like they don't love each other? I had to tell them I was going to spend the next day tallying all the "good" stuff and all the "bad" stuff they said and reacted to each other with; if there was more bad than good, there would be consequences.

Good...

I didn't have to replay that lesson the next day. I guess they "got" what I was saying to them?

Not so good...

Cramps and general yuckiness. And then, today, a sinus headache that wouldn't quit.

Good...

Going to see "Enchanted" at the dollar theatre. Very sweet movie!

So good...

Hearing an exceptional lesson at church Wednesday night. The line that really "got" me was this one: "Salvation does not mean sitting in your seat and being a spectator. Salvation means serving other people."

So good...

Having another exciting week with Sydney, who I think I am going to start calling either "Storyteller Scout" or "Songwriter Scout." Just today, she made up a song that she has sung ALL day for me and the girls. It goes something like this, "We can play/if we all are friends/ and share, share, share." (Imagine it being sung with this cute husky voice that Sydney has decided to adopt as her singing voice, and her stretching out the "share, share, share" for a verrrrrrrrryyyyyy long note.) She says she is going to sing it, "The next time there are some mean boys and girls who won't share. I will sing it to them and they will learn all about sharing." She just brings a smile to my face (and makes me shake my head in astonishment! lol).

So, so good...

Having a wonderful weekend to look forward to. For the first time in ages, we actually have a Saturday with nothing specific on the agenda. I think Gary and I will spend some time tomorrow doing some cleaning and working around the house, and then tomorrow night I may go out with my gal friends Chris and Allison (perhaps for drinks? or to our favorite bakery?).

I hope that you have a wonderful weekend (what have you got planned?), and that your "Good"s and "So good"s totally outweigh your "Not so good"s.

Love you all!

It is wonderful when we can balance the goods with the not-so-goods (and I loved your comment to my comment on Gary's blog)

Hey we actually had a Saturday off also! I went to the fabric store to buy material for curtains for my camper. I think that I will sit at home and sew today. Ross does not play b'ball on Saturday's anymore. I really need to get some housework done but NOT today! You have a wonderful post. Have a nice weekend!

It sounds like you had more good than bad; that always makes for a good week for me.

I, for one, am definitely interested in any and all recipes that you would like to share. I'll even beg for them :)

I love the list. I think I'll make mylist later tonight and post it next week. I think being the mother of girls is the best thing the world - and maybe the most challenging.

The weekend sounds great.

I love the list! Even the not so goods were neat. Well, Sorry the table got broken, but the rest ... life, girl! Sisters are sisters. Yes, you need to address it, but your girls are just normal girls. I've said before that I loved raising girls because they let me know what was going on in their lives, good and bad, and I knew when and what to address. See? Even their "girl stuff" is good! :)

I'm thrilled for your refrigerator and your meals. I'm trying to step up on the meal bandwagon again, and would love your smoothie ideas. I need to purchase a good blender (not-so-good ;) ) because I burned out the last one. However, my kids love smoothies, and I love sneaking wheat germ or flax into them.

I just can't get onto the Lost bandwagon, but never worry--I watch plenty of other shows to make up for it. :)

Great list. Great idea for the 'tude with the siblings, too.

I had a busy day at church, and then have totally bummed around, complete with nap and the Oscar hype playing in the background. Have a super week. xxoxoogretchen

Cheryl, what a great posting idea. Especially for those days that I really don't have anything that I think is interesting enough to talk about. Just another way for people to know us better, huh?

Thanks for the idea and I'm glad your "good" outweighs your "not so good".

Enjoy your week, my friend.
