Weekend Photos and Recap [just a day late]
I hope you all had a wonderful Monday and that your week is starting off well. I am listening to the wind howl outside right now, anticipating a night of thunderstorms. And tomorrow I will be busy, meeting my parents to celebrate my Dad's birthday (it's a late celebration. But better late than never!). So, I'm posting late-late Monday night (or early-early Tuesday morning, however you want to look at it!), just to make sure I can get my post online!
I promised some pictures from this past, fabulous weekend...and here I am delivering on that promise! (Just realize that you're in for quite a LONG post. We took a lot of pictures this weekend! LOL)
Our fabulous weekend started off with Delaney getting a hair-cut. She had decided a week or so ago to go for a shorter do (this is after several YEARS of trying to let it grow out long). Personally, though, shorter hair is a little easier to deal with, so I let her make her own decision about it. I think it turned out really cute!
Before...
and after...
On Friday night, we had a Happy Birthday Shindig for my sweet friend Allison. It was a good night of great food, great drinks, lots of laughs, good friends, a chocolate fountain, AND a chocolate birthday cake (you didn't think we'd have a party without chocolate?!).
I made Al's cake and, while it wasn't the prettiest in the world, it was really yummy...
On Saturday morning, it was up-and-at-em for an early arrival at Delaney's first tournament of the year for her travel softball team (the Birmingham Mustangs). The girls have been practicing their butts off all winter, but we weren't really sure of what to expect. But we were just excited to get the season started! (As Delaney told me the other night, "I'm tired of practicing. I'm ready to play some games.")
We were in a relatively small tournament (six teams in our 12-and=under division), but it was a really good one for our team. We won three games, tied one, and made it to the championship game...which we WON!! We only allowed three points all day long and we had a great day full of awesome pitching, great fielding (Delaney made some GREAT plays at second base), and some hot bats (Delaney struck out just once all weekend and had at least five hits to the outfield!).
Here are a few pics of D in the field...
And with the team with their First Place Trophy. Woo Hoo!!! Go Mustangs...
Sydney ALWAYS has fun at these softball tournaments. We have several "little sisters" on the team and they can entertain each other for hours. This weekend, Sydney and her friends had picnics, played with Barbies and baby dolls, played hide-and-seek, and generally just had a great time. But one of the coolest things was meeting the umpire who also had a knack for making balloon creations. Here's Scout with her mermaid balloon (which she promptly named "Ariel Mermadia"!)...
On Sunday afternoon, our attention turned to McKenna's Winter Guard competition (it was one of those weekends when we had to "split" our parent-child time. Delaney's tournament was the focus point on Saturday, and McKenna's competition was it on Sunday).
Winter Guard is an "artistic" version of color guard (which is a team that performs at halftime during football season with the band). The Winter Guard does an artistic presentation, filled with props, dance, flagwork, riflework, and sabrework.
I was SO impressed with McKenna! She looked so beautiful and poised out there on the floor, and did just great!!
Thank goodness for Gary, who is the one in our family who can take *awesome!* action shots. He got these gorgeous shots of McKenna (and I CANNOT WAIT to make a mini scrapbook out of them!) And, trust me, I have a lot more of these (I think Gary took about 50 shots; and that's all in the span of a three-minute program)! ....
Well, there you have it...our Weekend in a nutshell!!!
I'm off to eat another piece of my Texas Cake before bedtime while I listen to the rain fall on our roof.
I will do my darnedest to come visit you tomorrow at your bloggy homes. Until then...have a great night and a wonderful day.
{ Hugs... }

Love the action shots of both Delaney and McKenna. Delaney's haircut came out cute and I'm sure she's happier with the low maintenance of shorter hair.
That chocolate cake looks to die for, and McKenna looks amazingly poised and graceful out there.
Awesome.
I love Delaney's hair! So sassy and cute (like her i'm sure).
You have the most gorgeous girls Cheryl. You & Gary are so blessed. I love reading your blog. It always makes me feel grace and gratitude.
