The first "official" day of Summer

I am absolutely running around this morning like a "chicken with its head cut off," but I wanted to pop on here real quick and say "Hey!!" before the weekend gets going. We have an EXTREMELY busy weekend and I doubt that I'm going to be able to be online any more after about thirty more minutes.

But I wanted to post a few quick pictures and tell you about our first "official" day of Summer vacation yesterday. The girls are out of school and Sydney and Delaney and I spent part of the first day at our theme/water park that is just down the road from us.

To get started, though, wouldn't you know that the water park would shut down on our first day, because of rain and thunder and lightning? Sydney didn't even get her bathing suit off. Still, she dug in the sand for a few minutes (while one, lone lifeguard watched over us)...

And she pointed at a spot she wanted to be, but couldn't because it was closed...

But we did get to ride a few rides AND I had Delaney remind me that I WOULD ride a roller coaster before the Summer is over. Yep...that's on my list of things to do before I turn 40...and it's the one I'm dreading the MOST since I am DEATHLY afraid of heights. But, I am pumping myself up now and I am determined to do it before August 31 (unless, of course, I don't....LOL). This is the coaster I plan on riding....

(Sheesh...I'm sick just looking at it!)

Sydney will, however, be a very brave person one day and I am absolutely certain she will follow in the footsteps of her two older sisters and ride every scary ride she can find. She is finally tall enough to ride the kiddie roller coaster (she wasn't last summer) and ran right up to it to test it out with Delaney. When I saw this face, I thought for sure she would be terrified and never ride it again (she and Delaney are in the next-to-last car). But, no, she got on it again immediately after this ride and said it was the BEST ride ever...

And look at her face here. I love it!

Also on the first official day of Summer...

* McKenna applied for and got her first job ever. She is going to work EVERY weekday during the summer (although her boss is giving her the four weeks off she has to have for a mission trip, our trip to Maryland, band camp, and colorguard camp, so that's good!). I questioned whether she wanted to have to get up every morning in the summer and miss out on the water park during the day, but she said she wanted to make money! (I can certainly remember feeling that way when I was a teenager!).

* We got forms filled out and sent in to make McKenna's mission trip this summer with her youth group official. They are going to Illinois to build houses and are very excited about it!

* We went and saw the new Indiana Jones movie. YAY!!!! I am a huge Indy (and Harrison Ford!) fan and it was a really fun movie "event" (there were guys wearing "Indy" hats and carrying bullwhips and we were all humming the music as we went in. It was really fun!).

And now for the weekend...

We have a VERY busy weekend planned, but it should be a really fun one! Delaney has a softball tournament today and Saturday; Sydney has her first-ever dance recital on Saturday; we have a birthday party for my nephew on Sunday; and then Memorial Day is Monday (I hope to go to a friends' house for a pool party/grill out).

I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday and weekend. Please forgive me ahead of time for not getting to your blogs. I promise to pop back in on Sunday. In the meantime...hugs to all of you and I'll see you soon!!!

Hey Cheryl,

I rode a roller coaster at Disney World on my 60th birthday. Jim wouldn't go with me so I rode alone. I always say it was more fun talking about it than it was doing it.

Sounds like you are going to have a full, fun weekend. See you next week.

Hugs to all of you.

When I was younger I would ride rollercoasters but not ones that would go upside down. My sister actually tricked me into going on to my first upside down rollercoaster. She told me that it was just a regular rollercoaster and I believed her....as we were coming around a bend on the ride I saw the loop and was sooo nervous! After we went through it, I was in love and have been in love with all kinds of rollercoasters ever since!

I'm SO sorry that your plans got foiled by thunderstorms-- it never fails, does it? It sounds like you've got a great weekend planned, though, so I hope it goes through without any rain! *and I LOVE the rollercoaster that you're planning on riding! I'm a huge rollercoaster fan! It's not as bad as you think *hugs*

WOW...Let the busyness begin!!

Being that it's Monday now (Happy Memorial Day, by the way)...I hope you guys had as fun of a weekend as it sounded like you would.

I can totally relate to McKenna and her new job. Shoot, I'd like to feel that way NOW! :-)

Enjoy your week, my friend.

As I am reading backwards I know it was an extremely busy week-end! Congrats to Mckenna, not every kid is as dedicated and practical as her about working. Some are indeed L-A-Z-Y. I got my first job within two weeks of turning 16 and aside from the few months I took off to plan my wedding i've been working ever since!
