Mother's Day Banquet,
School News, Lost,
& Weekend Plans

Last night our church held its annual Mother's Day banquet, which is decorated through the use of themed "tablescapes" (tables are decorated individually and by groups of women to match the theme of the night). The night's theme was "Mother's Apron Strings: Tied to the Past," and McKenna had volunteered to decorate a table. Since she is a teenager, we wanted to do something youthful. After thinking about the theme, we decided to stretch it a little bit and do something that had to do with cooking and food...but that was young. So, we decorated a CHOCOLATE table!!! It was not elegant like most of the tables, but it was FUN and everyone really seemed to love it.

We decorated with a hot pink and brown color theme, and designed the place settings around it. McKenna put notecards at each setting that quoted from Psalms: "a sweet friendship refreshes the soul," made "placemats" out of brown and pink tissue paper, and then we decorated with mini chocolate towers. While we were decorating I had several people come and say, "I want to sit at this table" (mostly, of course, because of all the chocolate lying around! LOL)

I took pictures of some of the other decorations...the aprons and then some of the gorgeous tables...

Of course, Sydney had to help out with the decorations by posing at one of the kiddie tables...

And dancing around and getting dressed up with a few of her best friends...

and then, of course, the hazard in having a Chocolate Table is that there is a lot of chocolate left over at the house (which, of course, we can't resist!)...

Last night, McKenna went to the banquet and reported that the chocolate table was very popular (lol!); I didn't go because I was scheduled to go to Delaney's choir concert instead (which, then, was cancelled because of some rough weather we had!). So, I stayed home and watched "Lost" and, boy, was it ever IN. CRED. IBLE!!!!!!!!! ( I think Claire is so dead already!)

And now, today, is Friday morning and Gary and I are about to head out to Delaney's awards ceremony at school (she got all A's for the entire year; woo hoo!).

(Edited to Add: We just got back from the awards day and we were SO proud of Delaney. Not only did she get recognized for all A's all year, but she also received the Academic Excellence Award for Honors Social Studies, Academic Excellence for Language (this also happens to be the gifted class, so I think that's an extra honor with all those super-smart kids in there with her!), and Teacher's Choice for Honors Reading. So very proud of her. Yay for D!!)

This evening we will be going to a softball tournament with Delaney's team; tomorrow, Gary is going with Delaney to Six Flags as a chaperone for a choir concert, McKenna is going paint-balling, and my plans pretty much involve hanging out at the house and finding ways to relax. And then Sunday is Mother's Day, which I always really look forward to (I am blessed with a wonderful Mom and mom-in-law, and have a husband and daughter who always treat me like a queen for the day, so it's all very good!).

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend yourself. Love you all!!!!

Please tell McKenna I would have fought like a spinster going after the Bridal bouquet to have sat at the Chocolate table. She REALLY did a great job.

My second fav was the table with the rolling pen, red, blue, and yellow stuff and the daisies. It was almost as cute as hers.

I also like the idea that someone had with using the candle sticks and books for a center piece. Pretty!

Thanks for sharing!

Ok, I am so "stealing" this idea for our womens ministry. And I think you all had the best table around (and I am not a chocolate person).

The tables are delightful. I, being an all-out chocolate lover, loved McKenna's. I am assuming you escaped the worst of the Alabama weather. I was worried about you.

Have a delightful Mother's Day.

So, you think Claire is dead? Did she die after she met her dad? Oh and what do you think they were testing John for? You know, the whole which item belongs to you? honesty??

Another thing?? any theories on why the dude that was testing John doesn't age? Is he dead too?
