Birthday Wishes
& a Cool Cake

One of my VERY favorite people in the whole world is turning FORTY today!!!!

So...Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,

Happy Birthday dear Jeff,
Happy Birthday to you!

Jeff and I were great friends back in college and had some great times (Jeff--do you remember Eduardo, Halloween parties, pillow fights at cons, "I'm too sexy"? I know you do, and I apologize to the rest of you who don't get the inside jokes. LOL)

Jeff now lives the high life in New York City (one of these days, I will get there!) and he is such a cool person and friend. (He loves Broadway, hence the marquee sign up above that wishes him Happy Birthday. Of course, it doesn't look much like Broadway. It looks more like some seedy theatre in Jersey, but it's the thought that counts. Right?) And now...he's FORTY!!!! (I still have two months to go!)

(It is absolutely crazy thinking about all of my friends I went to school with turning forty. It's really hard to imagine that we are that age. There are days when I do definitely "feel" my age, but then there are days when I think that I must really still be 25. And in my mind, I sometimes feel even much younger. The only thing that brings me back to earth is that I do have a 16-year-old. It's just crazy!)

So...Happy Birthday Jeff!

And, speaking of birthdays (which we were)...yesterday, we were sitting in the doctor's office waiting for Delaney to have a physical to be able to be on the school volleyball team. As always, we had plenty of time (an hour, at least!) to peruse the magazines in the waiting room.

There was an issue of Family Fun and when Delaney saw this cake, she knew she had to have it...

Yes, Delaney's birthday has already come and gone and she's had her celebration with us and the rest of the family. But, we always do a party with friends too. Well . . . she had these big plans for a scavenger hunt all across town and had a list of about 15 girls she was going to invite. Well . . . that got scrapped because we were going to do it on a day that her coach now decided the team needs to practice on to get ready for a state tournament this weekend. So...I instead told her she could invite three girls over to go to the water park, go to the movies, and spend the night. But...she said she still needed a birthday cake!!! So...she picked this one out!

I have baked the cake layers, frosted it, and have pounded vanilla wafers and graham crackers into crumbs (for the "sand"). While I am at the dentist today getting a crown, the girls are going to decorate it. We'll see what it looks like when they're done with it!

Eduardo.... I'm so blanking on that. The rest of those I remember quite well.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! Always appreciated. The first few hours of 40 haven't been too bad.

Will and I will celebrate this weekend, though we haven't figured out all the details yet. Couple things for sure: Paula Deen's Better than Sex cake is on the menu for Friday. And a Sunday breakfast of eggs, biscuts, sasuage and gravy (that's the Southern boy in me shining through I suppose).

Thanks again for starting my day off great!

OMIGOSH! What a cake! You are a magnificent mom. How cool that you and Jeff are still good friends. I sometimes live vicariously through his comments. I love NY.

Have a great weekend. Things are looking up here.
