A Week in the Life...
Monday

These are my first contributions to my "Week in the Life" project I'm embarking on. (Go to Ali's blog to get the low-down on it.)

I tried not to plan or pose anything. Just let things happen as they usually do (and just happened to take pictures of them!).

I want to capture each day in writing as well. (I will use this journaling about my days when I put my book together to preserve this little creative experiment in "tangible" form.) So, this is sorta just a random, train-of-thought list of things that these pictures capture about me, my family, and my life right now.

* It was a weird day to start this out on, since it was a very a-typical day. The girls were out of school today for Columbus Day, so no waking up early for us. We all slept in.

* Since the girls were out of school, I was "off" of work. I didn't work on any assignments and, instead, relaxed and hung out with them.

* Apparently, we sleep and read and eat a lot in our household.

* The leaves are gradually starting to change, but not enough for me yet. We did spend some time outside and the weather was just perfect.

* We went to the thrift store on a Book Run. It's my absolute favorite place in the world to buy books (we left with a huge pile...four for Sydney--including the ultimate kids' classic, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day--three for Delaney, three for McKenna, and (only) one for me. Spent $16 and got all of those! (We also came home with cool boots for Delaney and Sydney, and two new games.)

* Krispy Kreme is three blocks from the thrift store.

* I made bacon and pancakes for breakfast (half plain pancakes, half banana/blueberry). Delaney commented, "You never make this big of a breakfast." (Guess she wishes she could wait for breakfast until 10 am every day!) Lunch was a Tombstone pepperoni pizza (our "go to" meal when there's nothing else around!).

* Some tv viewing for the day included "High 5" for Sydney this morning and the Tampa Rays/Boston Red Sox playoff game (those are the two I captured on film). Also watched were "Heroes" and "Chuck" and "The Big Bang Theory."

* Gary felt bad from the moment he came home from work--a headache. So bad, in fact, that he cancelled Sydney's team practice this evening (and won't he love me for that picture I took of him asleep on the couch?).

* There's no better way to end the day than with a bath. (Sydney's comment to seeing me in the bath... "Why do you have bubbles and you're a grown up?") And then with a book in bed.

These were just very simple photos of very ordinary acts, but it made me think a little bit about how this project could really illuminate things for me.

The pictures really say something about who I am, about what's important to me. It's always good to get in touch that way.

Such fun! Tell Scout that "Alexander" is one of my favorite books. Also, there is "Alexander who used to be rich last Sunday". Another favorite.

Now I'm hungry for pancakes, but will settle for cheerios.

Leah--HA ha! No, he won't like it I'm sure. (Don't you LOVE that blanket? It's my Bama afghan made for me by my mother-in-law.)

Kat--Thanks! (The pancakes were good. :-)

Camport--Did you do it?

Pam--Isn't that the best kids book ever? I was so excited when I saw it at the thrift store. We have a paperback copy of it, but this was a gorgeous hardback copy. When I opened it, it had that feel of a book that had never been opened before. And just 59 cents. I was so excited!! (I also got a copy of Blueberries for Sal, which is also a favorite kids classic of mine!)

I really love this challenge. If I can remember to do it, I should really start getting some pics together. Love the details.

I'm sad that our local Krispy Kreme closed down.

Okay, another good book is "Pumpernickel Tickle" by Nancy Patz. Scout will love it.

Can you tell I was a Children's Librarian?

Linda--I would love to see you do this project too.

Travis--That IS extremely sad. I don't think I could handle it!!!

Pam--Thanks for that recommendation. That's a book I've never heard of!! I will check it out for sure.

Sheila--It's never too late for pancakes, is it? :-)

Cate--Yummy!! (Thanks for commenting. You are a new commenter, I think?)
