Graham Crackers, Marshmallows, Chocolate...
You Think You Might Know What I'm Talking about?

Well, let me surprise you with a wonderful little twist on the classic Smore that I just discovered.

We all know about the ingredients that make the perfect Smore, don't we?

The graham crackers, and the marshmallows, and the pieces of chocolate candy bars.

We also know that it usually involves a very happy camper (so to speak, since you certainly don't need to be camping to enjoy these yummy treats!), like Sydney.

I spent some time yesterday making the classic Smore for Sydney and Delaney. And they quite enjoyed them!

(By the way, Sydney helped me make them and she later explained to the rest of us the process: "You get a graham cracker, and then you put one big marshmallow on top of it and some of the candy bar. And then you put it in the microwave and count to ten. And then you take it out and eat it, and get very sticky." Sounds about right, huh?)

But the real reason I bought these ingredients yesterday was because I was itching to try a recipe I recently discovered on Guy Fieri's website.

Guy is one of my favorite personalities on the Food Network (I especially love his show, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" and am personally upset that he found the perfect job--traveling around the country and eating--before I did!) After watching him yesterday, I decided to wander around online (me? online again? nah!) and find out some information about him. Well, I stumbled upon his website and found a list of his "Recipes of the Month" and was immediately tantalized by his recipe for...

Smores Egg Rolls.

Yep, the allure of all those above ingredients + this...

I immediately said to myself: "Self, you love egg rolls. You love smores. You love creating havoc in the kitchen. And, besides, Gary's out of town so you will have many more to eat all by yourself. You must try this recipe!"

I listened to myself, promptly went to the store to get the ingredients and then got to work on making these treats (as well as the traditional smores). Let me just tell you that, without reservation, they were restaurant-worthy-yummy. They are unique, and gooey, and decadent, and just really, really good (easy too, which is always a very good thing!).

(seriously...how GOOD does that look?)

Here's the recipe, if you'd like to try them yourself.

Smores Egg Rolls

(I'm going to just say for the ingredients list to buy packages of: graham crackers, large marshmallows, chocolate bars, and egg roll wrappers. Then my instructions are for each individual egg rolls. Make as many as you like!)

1. Make a quick egg wash by beating together one egg and a few spoonfuls of water. (Mix together well. )
2. Lay an egg roll wrapper on a flat surface, then rub egg wash all along the four edges. (A note about egg roll wrappers: they will dry out if you let them lay around for too long. I took out the number of wrappers I needed and didn't do too many at one time. The other wrappers I bagged up and put back in the refrigerator.)
3. In the middle of each egg roll wrapper, put: 4 small squares of chocolate bar and two large marshmallows. (This will look like a lot, but it will all melt in the frying process. So, fill it up!)
4. Roll up the egg rolls "burrito" style (bring the right and the left sides in first, then fold up from the bottom). Lay aside until you finish all the egg rolls you're doing.
5. Meanwhile, heat up oil in a frying pan. You don't want it too deep (the egg rolls should "lie" in the oil, not be submerged), and you want it to be at around 350 degrees--or starting to sizzle a little bit when you put the egg rolls in).
6. When oil is hot, place egg rolls in pan (I was able to fit four or five at a time in mine). Quickly turn the egg rolls over, making sure they are golden brown on each side (I flipped them very often and quickly, because I didn't want them to burn; it won't take long at all!).
7. Drain on paper towels; then, when ready to serve, sprinkle with graham cracker crumbs and a dusting of confectionery sugar.
8. Bite into one of these little gems and get ready to moan!

You can see that my niece, Lori, really enjoyed them...

and that we ate through the plate so quickly, that these were the remnants of what remained...

Get ready to be very. very. happy. (And let me know if you decide to try them!)
