Showers of Blessings

After coming home from church, I dove into the kitchen, turned on the radio for some happy music, and began working on some boiled shrimp for lunch. Outside I could hear the soft pouring of an afternoon rain shower and I pulled the kitchen window up just a tad, to get some of that sweet rain smell around me.

As I did those very simple acts, a phrase popped into my mind. It suits my mood perfectly right at this moment, as I think about how simple activities can bring joy and how I am thankful for everything God has given me.

Showers of blessings fall around me.

Just as the rain falls and fills me with contentment, I am surrounded by showers of blessings.

I have friends, and family...people who populate my life with joy and laughter and love.

But, even without others in my life, I have a quiet contentment about who I am and how I am blessed.

Sometimes it's just the sound of a happy song, or the bubbling of shrimp, or the sound of rain, or the sweet laughter of a daughter in the next room over...and that's what makes life so good...that I am aware of these showers of blessings, which can be both big and small.

So, on this Sunday afternoon, I stop and give a big shout-out to God who gave them all to me.

And I pray that you will be showered today with your own sense of being blessed.
