Happy Cinco de Mayo!!
In honor of this happy, happy holiday we are celebrating today, I'd like to give you my Top Five contributions we have received from Mexico. In no particular order . . .
(5) Chile Rellenos--My favorite thing to order at a Mexican restaurant, I love the yummy blend of meat, cheeses, and veggies inside a hot chile (the hotter the chile, the better!).
(4) San Antonio--Okay, it's not in Mexico, but it was settled by mostly Mexicans. It's my VERY favorite city in the United States. Great culture, great tourist spots, great history, great food!
(3) General Santa Anna--thank goodness he ventured up north into Texas, just so General Sam Houston could kick his booty at San Jacinto. He needed a major kickin' after the Alamo!
(2) Gabriel Garcia Marquz--Okay, again this is kind of a "cheat" of an answer because he was born in Colombia, but he's lived most of his life in Mexico City. If you haven't ever read anything by this guy, you've got to!! My favorite book of his is Love in the Time of Cholera. Awesome book!
(1) Margaritas--of course!! Love, love, love the yummy margarita. The good ole fashion kind is best! And it's best enjoyed with good friends at Habaneros--preferably one or more of the following: Chris, Allison, Ryan, Les, Lisa, Greg, or Karen.
Happy Cinco de Mayo!! Enjoy it with a maragarita and a chile relleno--or whatever your favorites are!

an alternative Cinco de Mayo top 5:

5. Speedy Gonzalez, the fastest mouse in all Mexico- In a move to be politically correct, Warner Bros. offered to place this cartoon mouse's episodes on a shelf forever. It was actually petitions from Mexicans that saved him.
4. ALL Mexican food- YUM!
3. Salma Hayek- Also YUM!
2. Mexican Radio- without it the excellent 80's band, Wall of Voodoo would not have had their one hit by the same name. "I wish I was in Tijuana, eating barbequed iguana..."
1. And of course the Margarita for all the reasons Cheryl listed and more.
