Random Tuesday (and...er...Wednesday) Movie Madness Post

...Where I share some recent movie fun
...Where I ask some fun movie trivia questions
....Where you answer some fun movie meme questions

How's that for a teaser to get you into my belated Random Tuesday post (which will also serve as my Wednesday post; lol)?

Monday afternoon, I decided to give the kids a fun day off to just have some fun. One of the best places we've found to have a good time lately is the Dollar Movie theatre, so I decided to pack up the car, grab a few sodas to stuff in my purse, and go see TWO movies in one day!! Because we often don't go to the movies as an entire family (except, of course, for big spectacles like the latest Harry Potter movie), we miss a lot of movies that we'd like to see on the big screen (but don't feel like spending $50 for tickets for all of us!). The perfect answer is the dollar theatre! They have movies that have been out for a while (no longer completely new, but it doesn't really matter to us), and they still have YUMMY movie popcorn (extra butter, layered, please!).

So we went to see this...

which I just absolutely LOVED! I had major childhood flasbacks, since I read each and every one of the Nancy Drew books when I was growing up. I loved her and she definitely started my love for mystery novels! And this movie was just perfect--it was so appropriate for kids and it didn't sacrifice the 1950s-style sensibilities of Nancy (it was set today, but she was still a "throwback" to the generation she was in the books). And her fashion style rocked!

Then we went to see this...

which was also SO good!! It had such a sweet, sweet story to it--all about how Lewis, the main character, so wanted a family and finally got one. Just a great message, along with some super characters and laugh-out-loud moments.

Then, when we got home the girls watched this (which I'd just bought on DVD the day before)...

Charlotte's Web was another one of my favorite childhood books and I thought this was a really great adaptation of it. If you'll remember, I'm a a Book Crier (which I shared back when I finished the 7th HP book) , and Charlotte's Web is one of the most emotional to get through! Such a sweet story of friendship (if you've never read the book to your children, I'd definitely recommend it!).

Now, you may also remember that when I came up with my 20 Things to Do List for this Summer, one of them was: "Rent some DVDs just for me."

I wanted to get out of the "rent or buy a movie that the kids will like" mode and watch some movies that I've been wanting to see. I was definitely going to go for some chick movies or some more serious movies that the girls wouldn't necessarily be drawn to.

So, yay!!!, I did it and thought I'd share the ones I watched with you.

I bought this the same day I got Charlotte's Web, because I'd read about it on a list at EW.com of the best sci-fi movies.

I LOVE science fiction and a good review always hooks me in, so I definitely wanted to try it out. But, let's just say that it's not a typical sci-fi movie. No spaceships or anything of the sort...but instead a very emotional movie that makes you think. It's set in 2027 when the world has become infertile (no one's given birth in 18 years) and has become a violent, depressing place. It follows one man as he tries to get a pregnant young girl to the coast of England and a chance for hope. The movie is VERY depressing, but the cinematography and camera work is really fascinating. I would recommend it, but not if you want a happy-go-lucky kind of film.

Now, onto the Chick Films...lol...

I bought this one...

which was very cute!

And then I bought this one...

which I absolutely LOVED when I first saw back in the early 1990s when it first came out and I had never seen it on DVD before. It's based on a wonderful Edith Wharton book and the acting is fabulous!

And then I bought this one...

which I just LOVED also. It has wonderful acting by Shirley McClaine, Toni Collette, and Cameron Diaz. It's a wondeful story of family and getting past your past and just makes you smile at the end.

And speaking of smiling at the end, this was my favorite of the whole bunch...

I absolutely ADORED this movie. I am so late in finally seeing it, but it was worth it and I highly recommend it if you like romantic comedies. I absolutely think I am in love with Jude Law (holy cow, can anyone get any cuter?). Just a wonderful story!!!

I love watching movies, but just don't take the time much to do watch them for myself...so I was so proud that I followed through on my plan to watch some movies "just for me."

And now, how about some Movie Trivia fun? There are certain movie lines that just stay in my memory; everyone definitely has their favorites. Here are a couple of my favorites. See if you can identify what movie's they're from (if anyone guesses correctly, I'll mention it in my responses in the comments section). Okay, here goes...

1. "I gave her my heart. She gave me a pen."

2. "Strange isn't it. Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?"

3. "They say bread is life. And I bake bread."

4. "Will someone get this big walking carpet out of my way?"

5. "I'll be takin' these Huggies, and, uh, whatever cash you got."

6. Well, you know what they say: if you don't have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me!

Those may be pretty easy, but they're some of my favorites!! (I'm one of those really geeky people that remembers all kinds of lines from obscure movies...just put me on "Jeopardy" and I'd be in pretty good shape!! LOL) See if you can take a stab at any of them!

And now, finally, for my Random Tuesday (and Wednesday! ha!) Post for today, I've got a couple of fun movie-related questions for you.

As is always the case, answer them here in my comments section or let us know that you are posting them on your own blog. Join in the fun!

* What is the last movie you watched, and was it good?

That would be Charlotte's Web, I guess. And, yes, very sweet!

* What is the earliest movie you ever remember seeing at a movie theatre?

I'm sure I saw one before this, but my earliest memory comes from seeing "Star Wars" when I was in the third grade and living in Austin, Texas. I guess because it was on the biggest screen I'd ever seen up until then!

* What is your favorite movie treat?

Movie popcorn. Lots and lots of butter!!! (and in the largest size, so I can refill once or twice!! lol)

* Have you ever fallen asleep in a movie theatre? what movie?

I fell asleep during "Batman 2" (the one with the Penguin and Catwoman). I LOVE superhero movies, but that one was so bad!!

* If there was a movie about you, who would you want to play you?

Good one! I really like Kate Winslett (but I'm not British, but she could probably get away with it!). But I should probably say Nicole Kidman, because Gary LOVES her!!!

Okey dokey...join on in with this meme and share with the rest of us!!!

See ya Thursday!!!

Cheryl, you're really making me look bad here. I don't get to the movies hardly ever at all. I just LIVE for the summers when Jayla and I can go for free :-). And those free movies are pretty old :-).

1. Last movie I watched in a theatre was Happy Feet (told you I don't get out much). It was the cutest thing!!! Loved it.

2. The earliest movie I remember seeing in a theatre was Jaws! Talk about being scared to DEATH!!! I remember my grandparents were visiting and we all saw it together. I slept with my feet pulled up as tight as I could get them. And I held my uncles hand across the twin beds in my room, until I fell asleep.

3. My favorite movie treat has got to be Raisinetes OR Twizzlers OR extra buttered popcorn. But the popcorn doesn't get along with my crowns too well. So I'll take the others, please :-).

4. YES! I have fallen asleep at the movies before. My mom made me take my sister to see some stupid Pink Panther (Peter Sellers) movie once. My sister couldn't wait to "dime me out" to my mom!!!

5. Let's see, if there was a movie about me, I think I'd like for Haley Berry to play me. No particular reason. Other than she has a few screws loose and from what I hear, she's a bit of a mental case. But she sure would make me look good...she's BEAUTIFUL! LOL

That was fun. Thanks Cheryl!
