Adventures with Rufus...

I have wanted to share this story for awhile, but just got all my pictures downloaded so it had to wait until today. I hope it is worth the wait!

I have to give a HUGE shout-out to my great friend Jeff. Jeff, one of my best friends throughout college (he and I were in numerous journalism classes together and involved in too many daquiri-induced Halloween parties to mention!) and now lives in New York City (yes, totally jealous of the fact that he can just up and walk to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!). I see him every once in a while when he makes the trip down South, but thank goodness for blogging because it has really reconnected us.

Anyway...when word got out that Sydney was going to be Kim Possible for Halloween, Jeff offered to let his toy Rufus fly down to Alabama to enjoy Halloween with Sydney. (Rufus is a naked mole rat character on the "Kim Possible " cartoon). Of course, I (and Sydney!) immediately said "Yes!"

He soon arrived in the mail, complete with a note telling us that he was looking forward to his Alabama adventure (Jeff--Sydney made me read the note over and over and soon had it memorized! lol)

His most important role was to hang out with Sydney on Halloween night, which he did admirably! Here he with Sydneyy aka KP on Halloween...

And getting ready for some candy...

But Rufus also got to enjoy a lot more during his time in Alabama. He had requested Beuno Nachos (his favorite snack on the show), so we obliged him with the next-best thing. Nachos at Taco Casa...

He also just "hung out" with our family, doing a lot of normal, everyday stuff. He ate, slept, and shopped with Syndey (here he is posing with Syd. And, yes, these are the sorts of outfits she picks out to wear to Walmart!)...

He did some scrapbooking with me...

He had to pose with McKenna in what I like to call a "myspace" picture...

He became an integral part of our home's Polly Pocket world...

I personally think he enjoyed this day the most. Yep, he went with me to the Alabama/ Tennessee football game...

He went to other sporting events too. He watched one of Delaney's newcomb tournaments, where he had a great up-close view...

He went to the final regular season game of the Hueytown High School football team...

He even went to church with us this past Sunday morning...

What trip to Alabama would be complete without a trip to Krispy Kreme? He did a great job ordering our glazed doughnuts at the drive-through...

And, I figured that Jeff (who loves all musicals and broadway shows!) would appreciate the fact that he went to see "Hairspray" with us...

We have SO enjoyed our time with Rufus. And we hope that he enjoyed his adventure too!! He will be returning in the mail to NYC in the next day or two, so Delaney and McKenna wanted to have one last goodbye wave with him. THANKS Jeff!!!!!

We've done this a few times with a few different characters. We sent one to Georgia AND we had a visitor here from all over the place. 'Twas fun.

Looks like the Mole Rat had a blast with you all!

This is awesome! I'm glad to see he was so well taken care of. The pictures are really great. I'm going to link up to our blog later today so that folks can come see the whole story.

I hope Sydney is okay with things when he climbs into his envelope for the return trip.

That reminds me of the projects that kids were doing in school a few years back. I paper boy, I think named Stanley(??), was mailed from place to place to spend a few days with different families and then returned to the child who shared the travel stories with his/her classroom. What fun!!
