"Did he drive in the front or the back?"

A little Scout talk this morning for you all...

Last night, on the way home from church, I got into a discussion about old college boyfriends (I really don't know where this topic of conversation came from...either it was Delaney talking about some boy she liked, or me just thinking of things randomly off the top of my head, which seriously happens the older I get!).

Anyway, I got to talking about this one guy that really had a pretty serious crush on me (he brought me roses every time he'd pick me up for a date)...and then about this guy who was really cute and sweet, until I went with him to a football game on campus and he was that kind of fan (you know the one who's really obnoxiously loud; of course, Delaney retorted with the fact that I myself am loud at games too, but he really was at a different level of loudness)...and then about this other guy who I was seriously crazy about (he was perfect; originally from Texas, smart, sweet, and had that lethal combination for me of dark hair and blue eyes...and, note here, that Gary is only the second guy I ever dated who had that combination!).

..and then I finally got to talking about this guy who I dated for three or four months during my junior year. He was really sweet and cute and seriously smart. He was one of those guys that you know would be really successful someday; one of those guys who I often tell my girls to go for. You know, kinda geeky but cute at the same time. They usually treat you with respect when you're dating, and someday down the road they'll be both respectful AND rich. This guy was majoring in engineering and, last time I heard, he's an engineer at NASA.

I was telling all of these stories to Delaney, who I think was kinda, somewhat enjoying them. (She made the comment, "And then you finally met Pop after all those guys," which really cracked me up.) And, of course, Sydney was totally listening to every word from her car seat behind us.

As we were pulling into our driveway, she yelled out, "But what did he drive? Did he drive in the front or the back?"

I had to ask her to explain the question to me, because I seriously didn't know what or who she was talking about.

She went a little further, "Did he drive the train from the front or the back?"

I prodded her a little bit more and she said, "You know. The boy who was the engineer."

Then I got it, and I had to explain that an "engineer" is not always someone who drives a train. It's also someone who works on rocket ships. Which, she sorta decided, was even cooler than driving a train.

Queen--I know! You just never know what part of a conversation Scout is gonna latch onto. Sometimes it's surprises you how much she realizes what you're talking about.

Songbird--You're very welcome. :-)

Dawn--I love to tell Delaney and McKenna about boyfriends and when I dated and things I did in high school. I want them to know thatI used to be a "normal" teenager too. But...with Sydney, you wonder what to tell her. Because you never know what she'll repeat. Lol

Lynilu--They absolutely are!

Telah--I know! That's what I love so much about kids.
