Life a la Sydney
In lieu of a "Life with Cheryl" posting this morning, I thought I'd share a couple of "Life with Scout" moments.
Sydney had several insightful comments and was involved in a number of humorous conversations over the weekend. I thought that they were worth sharing.
Littering
As Homecoming week came to a close, we were "toilet papered" one last time on Friday night (we learned after-the-fact that my nephew and a friend were in on it, and they promptly found themselves mowing the shredded paper out of our lawn over the weekend!). When Sydney saw the trees "decorated" once again, she had this to say about it:
"Do you know what's so wrong about having toilet paper in your trees?"
Well, we certainly had our own opinions about it. But of course we had to ask her about hers.
"Nope, Sydney. What's wrong about it?" we asked.
"It's LITTERING."
Germy
Sitting at the Chinese restaurant for lunch after church on Sunday, I had this conversation with Sydney:
"How was Sunday School this morning, Sydney?"
"I was the only one there with Miss Lisa."
"Well, what about Children's Church? Didn't you have more kids there?"
"Yep. There was Holden. And Ella. And Lauren. And Katie. And Jeremy, I think."
"Oh yeah. I know Jeremy. He's a sweet boy."
"Well, I like him. But I don't exactly like his name. Because it sounds like he's got germy hands. His name's Germy, and I don't like that."
A Pleasant Present Surprise
Still at the restaurant, we all opened our fortune cookies and read them to each other. As is the case most of the time with fortune cookies these days, the strips on the inside didn't actually give us fortunes (cmon..tell me I'm going to come into some money the next week, or that a friend will betray me, or that I will be hit by lightning. Instead, I get things like "Life is a journey" and "You are good with other people"). Anyway, Sydney got the only "real" fortune of the bunch. After Gary read it to her ("You will receive a pleasant surprise this week"), she gave me her own interpretation of it.
She told me:
"It says that I will receive a present surprise this week."
We tried to tell her that it said "pleasant," not "present."
"Pleasant means good, or joyful, or nice," I tried to explain to her.
That definition didn't really work for her.
"That sounds like a present to me," she answered. "I wonder what kind of present I'll be getting."

Ha! John M. has a boy named 'Jeremy' in his class and he calls him 'Germy' too!
gotta love 'em....i lov ewhat they come up with and how their mond works...cracks me up....and i am with her on the whole "germy" thing....that name ewwww's me as well

I think it is WONDERFUL that you are putting all of these conversations down in writing! I wish I had done that with my kids.
You will be able to fill a whole book with things Sydney has said.
