We survived the Weekend!
Boy am I ever exhausted! I can't think of the last weekend that wore me out like this one did...but the exhaustion was worth it, because it resulted in some wonderful memories.
If you don't remember everything I had planned for this weekend, it included McKenna's Prom, an after-Prom celebration, Sydney's birthday party, and an Easter egg hunt (Delaney also had a county-wide softball tournament thrown in there for good measure!).
As a result of all that activity, I have a lot of photos. So I hope you're ready!
Delaney started off the weekend with her school softball tournament on Friday, where they won one of two games and got ready for elimination games on Saturday.
Bright and early on Saturday morning, McKenna got up to go take her ACT. She thinks she did well enough, although she said the Math section was awful (ahhh, the flasbacks that gave me! I remember just feeling nauseous after the math section on mine. Nothing much changes in 23 years, I gues!).
She came home from the ACT to get ready for the Prom, which she was BEYOND excited about.
After getting her hair and makeup done by one of her best friends, she came back home to get dressed, pose for pictures, wait for Brett to finish his baseball game, and then get ready to head out.
With Sydney (who...oh yeah!...had a makeup game with her softball team on Saturday morning and had to keep her jersey on because she was so excited about her win!)...
With me (I feel short!)...
Hanging with Brett in the backyard (as he calls his Dad to bring him their corsages, which he forgot in the rush!)...
and posing for some sweet pictures...
With her best friend, Stephanie...
who also happens to date her other best friend, Raymond (this is our "adopted son" who lost his mother earlier this year)...
and in front of their "ride" for the evening (a restored 1974 Nova), which just so happened to break down 30 minutes after this picture and pushed back their night by at least an hour, and then they didn't get to eat out at a nice restaurant before the Prom and instead had to eat out at Waffle House at midnight after the Prom. But they handled the adversity well and seemed to have a great time nonetheless...
After the Prom, I had great plans for a party with a "Monte Carlo" theme. I had decorations and poker games and card games set out and some yummy goodies planned...
The only problem is that once McKenna called me to tell me they were at Waffle House and they arrived home a little before 1 a.m., I had fallen asleep and then was totally out of it. But I did manage to snap a picture of them once they were dressed casual again and trying to learn how to play Texas Hold Em...
On Sunday, I slept in from church (pretty much a given!) and then got ready for Sydney's Beach Birthday party which included my homemade Sun Cake and fun beach-themed decorations...
balloon volleyball...
dance lessons from the older kids...
musical beach towels...
cousins...
and opening presents...
It was a really fun time and Sydney is so excited to now be five-years-old. (As we were finishing up the party, she asked me, "Am I really 5 now?" I had tried to explain that her "real" birthday had been last week and that today was just the day of her party. She didn't really get it so I just reassured her, "Yep, you're five now." To which she jumped up and down and said, "Yay!!!".)
After the party, we managed to get up to church for our Easter Egg Hunt. We all did our darnedest to get into the swing of things, although we mostly walked around in a daze. Although Sydney did manage to get a big basket (i.e., beach bucket) full of eggs...
Whew...
that was one of those weekends that i was really anticipating and was a lot of fun, but that I'm sorta glad is over with (You know what I mean?).
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend too!
And now...I'm off to take a long, hot bath and then get geared up for the week (taxes! article deadline! more softball!).
See you again soon!

I need a nap after reading all of that. Glad everyone had a good time!!
Tis all looks like so much fun. I'm glad your weekend went so great.
I fondly remember prom days.(A long time ago. ha ha)
Great pics! I love how the prom gang dealt well with the car pictures.
That sun cake is gorgeous! Did you elaborate on that somewhere and I missed it? What's the flavor? What are the points made out of? Details please...
It all sounds so whirlwind and wonderful!
I love McKenna's dress,so pretty.
Oh My!! What a weekend. You did very well to keep up with it all.
Great pics. The prom kids looked beautiful.
I, too, remember the math portion of the SATs. I was sure no college would ever take a dunce like me. Give me the English portion any time.
~hippo hugs~
You had a totally whirlwind week-end but ya handled it well! Thank you for sharing all those wonderful pics!
Adrienne--LOL I STILL need a nap!!!!
Gin--It really was fun!
Jeff--I was SO pleased with how the cake turned out. The cake is actually triple chocolate (I used a cake mix this time...just didn't have the xtra time. LOL), and the frosting is my homemade buttercream frosting (SO good!). The rays are made from sugar cones convered in the frosting and then just "stuck" into the sides of the cake. And then I covered it with clear sugar crystal sprinkles. It was really pretty and tasted good too!
Ms. L--I loved McKenna's dress too. It really suited her style.
Hippo--I just remember the Math section being awful! Give me English, History any day...anything but Math.
Queen--I survived!!! :-)
Wow...I'm tired, just reading. But still...celebrating life at breakneck speed is still celebrating. ;) Great pictures.
Wonderful! I want to party at your house.
This weekend has been absolutely crazy! But oh so much fun. I went to the poetry site you posted and have caught myself up on the daily poem challenge :] Most of my poems are on the lame side, but there are a couple good ones. I especially like the one I wrote for today :]
My goodness, Cheryl! I wanna be a mom just like you when I grow up! :-) Ok, maybe without THAT many activities in one weekend. WHEW!!
Glad everyone had fun at all of the planned events.
Now go take a nap!
Gretchen--We are a family that LOVES to celebrate...but this was almost too much! :-)
Anon--LOL Come on over!
Steph--Oh, fun! I'm gonna go check your poems out!
Dawn--I really do need another nap (but now it' already time for bed again!). :-)
You are supermom! The birthday party alone would have worn me out....
Oh, and in my opinion, cake mixes are just fine if you have homemade icing! It's the canned icings that are so awful. And it was so cute!
Loved your daughter's prom dress! Short is in...unlike my days nearly 20 years ago, but I won't go there. I could gobble up that entire cheesecake and that sun birthday cake was so stinkin' cute! What a busy weekend, Cheryl! Glad you survived and lived to tell us about it!
Deborah--I do my best..but Supermom was TIRED this time!!
Deb2--That's officially my way of "cheating." I will use a cake mix (several of which are actually really good), but then always do homemade frosting.
Laura--I love that she chose the short dress. It just really "looked like" her. She said there were all sorts of dresses at the prom; anything goes, I guess!
Awww. what beauties! Happy Birthday to Sydney! and mcKenna looks gorgeous in her prom dress. YES, some wonderful memories! I love the photos. Thanks for sharing them.. Have a blessed Easter Week. i'm off for Good Friday too! YAHHHHH! bunches of hugs..
I haven't been posting them on the site, just writing them down. I'll post the ones I've written so far on my blog. :]
You deserve a nice, hot, long, bubble bath after all of that! LOL! I am so glad that everything went well!
good grief woman...i am exhausted...i would still be sleeping after that weekend....
everyone looked like they had an awesome time....
Cheryl ~ You have so many shots here of what looks like some GREAT TIMES! Good for you! That is what life should be all about! ~ jb///
What great memories, Bobby came in the other day and said you have got to go to Cheryl's blog McKenna has prom pictures up. She is so grown up I almost didn't recognize her.
You are such a wonderful woman Cheryl...so ful of life and just a Mom to cherish! You are an amazing Mom!
I loved all the pictures and sharing in all of this with you!
You are creating warm memories that will be with all for ever.
Love,
Sue
