Another Busy Weekend with the Wrays

I wanted to get online and write an essay that was meaningful, or witty, or inspiring, or nostalgic...or something. But, as most of you with families probably already know, life becomes extremely busy during the Summertime and I don't always get to do everything I want to do.

Instead of getting a special post that the Writer in me really wants to do, then, you are going to instead get a very simple photo update from our weekend.

Delaney's softball team had a State tournament this past weekend in a city about an hour and a half away from home. Gary traveled to another city to watch the 6-and-under All Star team from our town compete in their State championship tournament (this was the league he coached in during the park season, and he had three girls from his team on the all star team; the girls from his team kept asking where "Coach Gary" was and begging him to come watch them again). The girls WON the State and were undefeated through the pre-area, area, region, and state tournaments.

And McKenna stayed home because she had a surprise party and a senior class officers meeting to go to.

So, Delaney and Sydney and I ventured off for a weekend of softball fun by ourselves.

The weekend, though, didn't quite go as we wanted it to. The team didn't win a game all weekend long (remember that this is a team that has done great so far this season; remember them coming in second place when we traveled to Tennessee a few weekends ago?) and just was really in a slump. (Delaney says, though, that we always have one bad weekend every season--so we are claiming this past weekend as that weekend. Next weekend is another state tournament and then the World Series, so we need to get out of the slump soon. LOL)

When you don't do well, though ... when you keep hitting foul balls like this one...

you find other ways to stay entertained. For us, that included: enjoying a night at a hotel, eating Krispy Kreme donuts, going shopping between games, and just keeping a smile on our faces (which was a lot easier for Sydney, who found several of her favorite softball friends to play and pose with)...

It also didn't help, though, that it was HOT, HOT, HOT this weekend. It was literally 100 degrees while the girls were playing.

So, we also tried to stay cool (Thank Goodness for the little water park we found next to the softball fields)...

and we ended the day by supporting a friend on another team (because, even if you're frustrated with yourself, you can stil be a good sport!)...

(And, oh yeah, how could we forget bed-jumping?...

I'll be back soon, hopefully with a more insightful post. (Because, believe me, there's a lot I could write about: the death of a childhood and teenage pop icon, the tragic death of a former student of mine, a meaningful parenting "ephiphany" I had, and a sharing of some wonderful books I've been reading in recent weeks.)

Until then, though, I hope you have a wonderful day and night!

Cheryl ~ WOW! Does it ever look like you guys have been busy. But it also looks like you've all been having a lot of fun too. Sorry to hear about your former student. Dealing with someone's passing is always tough, but the closer they are to you, the harder it is! KEEP having a great time this summer. Prayers for the family of your former student too! PS I love the new family picture you are using as you avatar! ~ jb///

Great pics, and great life lessons. Humble winners and gracious losers. We're all on one end of the win or the other--might as well make the best of it.

Glad you're having fun.

Okay, the sprinkler park thing looks fantastic. I could seriously use that right now--it is HOT.
