Scrapbook Pages!!

I had so much fun doing some scrapbooking and scanning this past weekend. I went Friday night to my friend Chris' and did some scrapbooking with her (although we really spent more time trying Mojitos--a brand new discovery for me--and eating her delicious homemade salsa!); I also did some creating on my own too, which is always fun! Then, Gary dug out our scanner and taught me how to scan pictures (which I think I'm going to become addicted to, because I've got a ton of old family photos that need to be scanned!).

Here are some of the things I created . . .

Remember those photos I posted a month or so ago of my impromptu backyard photo sheet with the girls? I sat down and got this two-page layout of them done this past weekend. You can tell I'm still learning how to scan and stitch together these layouts because you can see the break really bad on the first page.

I really like how the pages turned out, though--mostly because I really like the Fall colors and the fun things like those big tall chipboard letters, the buttons, and the flowers. (And I LOVE using big photos on pages--that's an 8 x 10 on the first of the layout.)

One thing I'm consciously doing with my scrapbooking these days is trying to capture really MEANINGFUL things on my pages. I love doing scrapbook projects just for the sheer fun and joy of doing them, but I also want them to be something that will be valued someday. So right now I'm working on an album that has really meaningful journaling that will really let others (hopefuly my grandchildren or great-grandchildren) know about me someday. I'm doing pages about my grandparents, my childhood, my friends, my loves, and my children.

This is a layout I did of some of my childhood memories for that album.

The journaling says:

Where did you grow up? I was born in Greenville, Texas, lived in Texas and North Carolina before kindergarten, but then pretty much grew up in Farmington, Arkanas (right outside Fayetteville). Lived there until we moved to Alabama before high school.

What memories do you have of your dad? I'll always remember that Dad drove me to school every morning of my childhood. We'd sing songs on the way--things like "Puff the Magic Dragon," "House at Pooh Corner," "Stewball," and "Wild Mountain Thyme."

What memories do you have of your mom? Mom was the best cook and I loved when we all decided to have Saturday homemade doughnut nights! I also used to love to go to her classroom at the high school where she taught. I co
uld that all of the students loved her!

What toys and gamed did you like to play? Books were my very favorite (I remember countless days reading under the tree in our front yard), but also loved to ride bikes, play with Barbies, roller skate, and do gymnastics.

Who was your firs
t crush? That would have to be Bobby Foster, starting back in first grade. He was the son of one of the Razorback basketball team's coaches and I thought he was great. So cute and athletic!

Which family vacations were your favorite? We didn't really go on big vacations, but we went camping a lot. That was always a lot of fun, although it always rained incessently when we went (7 inches one time!). I also remember the time we went to Port Aransas, Texas--the first time i saw a beach!

What did your childhood bedroom look like? I ha
d a white bedroom set and I was always changing my furniture around. I also remember getting a small black and white tv for my room when I was about 10. I also remember my big window and the snowball bush that was right in front of it.

The next page has somewhat the same design feeling as that one before--lots of pinks, girly embellishments, and kind of a collagey feeling. It captures Sydney's love of fashion these days and shows some of the different things that make her "In Style."

Gotta love those crocs, huh? And that tatoo too!

The journaling on it says: "Sydney is definitely All Girl! She loves to shop, try on clothes, and dress up! Here are some of her favorite fashion statements from the Fall of 2006. Too cute!"

And then this final layout I did last night. It's one of my niece Lori. Gary just did some beautiful photos of Lori for the Miss Photogenic contest at our high school's pageant. I used my favorite of the pictures on this layout. (It's for a "special" project for someone, so shh . . no telling!)

I really like how it turned out! And I especially love the colors in it--just makes me feel like Fall is finally here to stay!

I do need to share this photo of Delaney after her tournament on Saturday. She was so excited--and so were the rest of us--because this was her first time to win a tournament! (She's been on two other travel softball teams and never won a tournament with either of them!) Here she is holding her trophy! (And go to Gary's blog to see a lot more great pics from Saturday!)

(And, yes, this will be on a scrapbook layout soon!)

PS--Do you like the new look of my blog? I decided to redecorate a little bit around here! It's always nice to have a little bit of a change!

I'm too embarrassed to share any of mine! :-) Your little girl will NEVER forget the fun times that she spends in athletics, those trophies, and her mom and dad in the stands! Those years in athletics form them....I can attest to that! Awesome job Delaney!
