Just For Fun . . .
(Some Seriously Random, But Fun Get-to-Know Me questions this Tuesday)

Those of you who are pretty regular readers of my blog know that every Tuesday is "Random Tuesday." I like to pose some questions and answer them, or post some interesting facts about myself, and then challenge you all to do the same . . . all in the name of getting to know each other a little bit better out where in Blogville.

Today's post is true to the name--these are just really RANDOM questions! I decided to simply ask myself a couple of really random questions that I've found at different blogs out there. Enjoy my answers, share with me if you have similar feelings, and if you so desire please post your answers to my questions (or link us to your blog where you've taken my questions and ran with them!).

Okay, here goes . . .

1. Your house is on fire, the people and pets you love are safe and you can grab one other "thing", what are you taking? I'm grabbing every photograph and scrapbook that I can find (and maybe the computer disks with the pictures on them too!). Pictures are absolutely priceless! (Of course, I'd also miss the close to a thousand books that are sitting on various bookshelves and tables throughout my house!)

2. Who have people said that you look like? Back in the late 80s (when I was in college--sheesh, that's hard to believe!), my friends said I looked like Glenn Close. Of course, this was during the "Fatal Attraction" era, so I'm not really sure if that's a good thing. Gary says I look like Sarah Jessica Parker, but I think he's blinded by love (or by the image of SJP in a really short "Sex and the City" miniskirt!).

3. What is your earliest, strongest Thanksgiving memory? I will absolutely never forget the Thanksgiving when I must have been ten or eleven (Mom, correct me if I'm wrong!) when we traveled out to visit my second or third cousins on my dad's side of the family. They lived in this beautiful big house up on a hill in the country (this was in the Ozarks in northwest Arkansas) and it actually snowed a huge snowfall! It's the only White Thanksgiving I can remember--and I remember it being just gorgeous!

4. What’s the last thing that made you laugh so hard that you were crying (or spitting things out of your nose)? Okay, this is a tie--The first was Saturday when my nephews Matthew and Garrett were in the hot tub with my mother and Sydney; whenever they're in the hot tub, they play charades for some reason. Anyway, the topic among them soon became body parts and Garrett started talking about testicles. Matthew, who is 7 and a year older than Garrett, just said with a straight face, "Garrett talks about them a lot!" We were all laughing so hard that we were crying!

Tied with that is me finding on youtube the Thanksgiving episode of "WKRP in Cincinnati" about the "flying" turkeys. Who remembers that episode? That is the classic episode from a hilarious television show. I remember laughing so hard that my side hurt when it first came out .. . and laughing the same way every time I've seen it since. Gary emailed it to me not long ago and I enjoyed it all over again; I was actually snorting at it! (In case you want to see it, go HERE.)

5. You have $100 to spend in the next hour. How are you spending it? (Saving it or giving it away not permitted.) Gee, there's a lot of "fun" stuff I'd love to spend $100 on--and let me tell you, it would go fast!! But I think I would take that $100 and go out on a really nice date with Gary. I'd go to a really nice restaurant and pull out all the stops--appetizer, elegant entree, wine, great dessert.

Well . . . that was fun!

Give me your answers to those questions. I can't wait to hear from you!

Hoping you all have a great day! (I had a FANTASTIC day yesterday--I just feel motivated and encouraged and creative and inspired, because of several things that I will share with you tomorrow probably. It was also a beautiful 68 degrees today, which just really made me feel uplifted! Of course, it began to rain last night and is supposed to all day today--which is another story! But . . . the week is shaping into a good one, which is always a good thing!)

(I am having serious photo withdrawal! I'm a Photo Addict, as most of you know by now, so it's killing me that I don't have any pictures to post on yet again today. I'm sorry . . . Tomorrow, though, is another day and I will have some for you all then!)

Until then . . . go forth and have fun!

I am grabbing all my albums & my camera
When I was younger and my hair was longer...I used to be told that I looked like Meryl Streep.
And yes...Boy to I ever remember that WKRP episode...It is my FAVORITE one EVER of that show. I work with a guy here @ work...he is older & his name is Les...and it about cracks me up...cause I want to call him Les Nesman all the time!!!!
Anyway...back when my grandparents were still living...we used to have a HUGE feast at their house. All my mom's bother's and her sister lived really close (except her one brother who was military).

From Joanne, Cheryl’s mom

1. I would grab
photographs and poems David wrote me that are framed and favorite
nostaligic items around the house if I had time. Both my grandmothers’s houses burned (one grandmother had two houses to burn everything she had.) I remember Mama Stuart saying she wished she had her pictures.

2. When I was young, it was
Patty Duke. I have also been told Sally Field!! I was at the grocery
store a year or so ago in the dairy dept. A woman, a stranger, came up to me and said, “Did anyone ever tell you that you look just like Hillary (Clinton)?” I was so flabbergasted that I finally said, “No.”
Of course, then I had to tell the story to my husband when I returned home and ask him if I really looked like Hillary. For some reason people are always mistaking me for people that I am not (regular people, not movie stars), so I guess I have an ordinary face!!

3. What is your earliest, strongest Thanksgiving memory? I can’t remember my earliest, but one of my most memorable is like Cheryl the Thanksgiving we went to David’s first cousin’s out in the country in the Ozarks. It was a picture postcard Thanksgiving with lots of snow and lots of fun and talking about family memories with cousins.

4. What’s the last thing that made you laugh so hard that you were
crying (or spitting things out of your nose)? Well, it had to be
Saturday with Garrett and Matthew and Sydney in the hottub. I agree
with Cheryl about Garrett’s and Matthew’s discussion !! but also when Matthew asked Sydney (who was being a water animal) if she was a polka dotted fish, and she said yes. Also, when Matthew was something without a mouth and he would never tell us what he was because he said he
didn’t have a mouth. The grandkids always make me laugh. We are so loud that our neighbors behind us on the hill I think hear us every time we are in the hottub. They must get their ears filled with what they think is unique conversations. HA!

5. I need to spend it on some
new shoes (I don’t buy shoes), but I probably would go to a thrift
store, an antique store, a gift store, or a consignment store which is my favorite type of shopping.

Phats--I would love to see your Phats Tuesdays come back! Yes, G should be VERY afraid! lol
Adrienne--You and your camera stuff. Ha!! Now I'm curious about your funny thing!
Rhonda--Les Nessman cracks me up! I love it!
Mom--I LOVE reading your memories! (of course, I also thought you always looked like Melanie from Gone with the Wind too!). I'd never heard the Hillary story!

1. if there is a fire I am grabbing my pictures, as many of them as I can get to & Jake's Bama pictures from his room

2. Back to the 80's again, I had longish hair, permed and was often told I look like Fawn Hall. Remember Ollie North's secretary at the time of Iran-Contra?

3. I remember being at my cousins in Pleasant Grove and throwing our cranberry sauce out her bedroom window and always, the Alabama- Auburn stuff comes up, I dread this year.....

4. The Seinfeld episode where he forgets the girls name but thinks it rhymes with a female body part? (Mulva) Well, that came up in a Mexican restaurant a while back and it is especially funny if you are drinking margaritas.

5. I am definitely heading to Bright Star with my 100 bucks. I hope that would cover it.

1. Your house is on fire, the people and pets you love are safe and you can grab one other "thing", what are you taking? I have a teddy bear named Daddy Bear. I have had him since I was 6 years old and slept with him every night until I got married. (17 years!) He now sits in a mini rocking chair in my bedroom. I would grab him.

2. Who have people said that you look like? Well this is an easy one... I am a carbon copy of my mother. :-)

Celebrity wise, I was told a couple of times that I favored Jennifer Lopez back when I was in high school. I have also had people tell me that I look like Amy Grant and Katie Holmes. I honestly don't see any truth to any of that, but I have noticed that if you have dark hair and dark eyes, people think you look like every other dark hair and dark eyed girl in the world.

4. What’s the last thing that made you laugh so hard that you were crying (or spitting things out of your nose)? Last night, Will, my husband, was trying to get into some of our leftover Halloween candy. He got out a banana flavored laffy taffy and tried and tried to open it. He was having a really tough time and he burst out with, "What's a man gotta do to get some candy round here!"

5. You have $100 to spend in the next hour. How are you spending it? (Saving it or giving it away not permitted.) I would go and get a massage and if I had some money left I would get a manicure and a pedicure. I would have some "me" time.

Geez, one visitor and my whole afternoon was turned upside down! anyway's, where was I?

1. I would definatley take my photos, my laptop, my cd's - just about anything that cannot be replaced, specially the photos! and of course the puppies! (lets just pretend it is only me in the house - lol). The kids are safely at school and hubby at work!

2. Many moons ago people used to tell me that I looked like Princess Stephanie on Monarco and when my hair is short - like our very own international swimming sensation Penny Heyns

3. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in SA.

4. Just last week at work Melinda and I were watching a DVD of one of our local comedians - Barry Hilton - He is side splittingly and coffee coming thru the nose funny! I will be including a copy for you guy's in your parcel, BTW!

5. That is a tough one! Like I know myself I would probably spend it on clothes! I love buying clothes. In our currency a R100.00 could only buy, well lets say, half a skirt! lol

Hope you are having a lovely Tuesday!

Okay, here goes . . .

1. I agree...the pictures. That's one thing that you can't replace. (I'm sure we'd try to get the deer heads and the turkey fans too!) lol

2. OK...I know I'm no where near as pretty or skinny, but people used to say I looked like Julia Roberts. It has to be the lips. I was in style with these big 'ol lips long before botox ever came around! lol I never wear a color on my lips because I always try to make them look thinner!! Isn't that crazy?

3. Having dinner with my dad's side of the family. They always had the best food!

4. Last week when the phones were ringing so much here at work, a co-worker's phone rang and she said "I wish they would just take this phone off my desk!" We just kind of had a silly moment and went with it about everything. Both of us had to get a tissue because we were laughing so hard we were crying. I know it's not funny now, but you just had to be there. :-D

5. I'm going to a spa for however long that $100 would last me and get pampered and relieve some stress!

Great questions will need to think about them awhile. Ok, I have been going to your scrapblog and missing all of the great stuff here (lol).

CyndiAKADisneyqueen said...

Ok, you asked for it:

1. Your house is on fire, the people and pets you love are safe and you can grab one other "thing", what are you taking?

A few months ago I would have said my disney albums, but we actually had a fire (it was our van, but it was so close to the house that the firemen were worried about the house ) and I grabbed nothing !!!! The most important thing was my family. And if I had to do it all over again I would do the same thing. Material things can be replaced . I learned that day that ( even with the house close to being caught on fire ) that my last concern was to go back and get stuff just in case.

2. Who have people said that you look like?

I look in the mirror each day and see my mom and my grandmother staring back at me. People have always said it , but I never believed it until recently.

3. What is your earliest, strongest Thanksgiving memory?

Thanksgivings at our house were never a big family affair, it was my mom, stepfather, sister and me. Now if you were to ask what my fondest Thanksgiving memory was it would have to be the first year I cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner while living in Germany with my husband and children. We invited two single soldiers over to share with us. I remember thinking this is what Thanksgiving is suppose to be like.

4. What’s the last thing that made you laugh so hard that you were crying (or spitting things out of your nose)?

Wow, that is tough My family has been going through soo much the last few months that I can’t say that I recall when I have laughed , at least not that really good laugh that’s makes you cry or come close to going to the bathroom. Lesson learned…laugh a little more ( even in hard times ).

5. You have $100 to spend in the next hour. How are you spending it? (Saving it or giving it away not permitted.)

That’s a easy one, I would find someone to loan me the extra $40.00 and I would be sined up for the GetCroppin event in Chantilly, Virginia.

Hey everyone!! I love all of your answers!!
Lisa--I can actually see the Fawn Hall resemblance! And the Mulva episode is one of my faves!!!
Mel--I can actually see the Katie Holmes resemblance! Will can be Tom Tom!
NM--The comedian sounds like a riot!! How fun to get it in our parcel. Yay for us!!
Bobby--Tom Cruise?hmm . . Yes, please get your medicine! I've seen you when you don't have it!
Beady--Didn't know you were a twin. Cool!! Had to laugh out loud at the nearest buffet! Wouldn't that be good right now?? (And I'm not even pregnant!!)
Jenn-You and your deer heads! LOL! I'm with ya--a spa treatment sounds divine!!
DS--You've been missing all sorts of fun over here!!! That is SO sweet about cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the two soldiers. And that Scrapbook event sounds great!!! (BTW--you need togoback and check out all my Disney pics from last month!)
Renee--It's okay to be lazy!!! With kids, we're entitled to be!!

1) THING TO GRAB IF THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE- Probably my purse, pictures would be nice but having my drivers license and credit card and work id and honestly if the family and the pets were out then nothing, they are all that really matters.

2)People have said I look like- I think it was Pres Monroe's wife. My sister saw a pic of her and it really was scary how much she looked like me (or I looked like her?). Of course, she had a bun and a long black dress-FUN!

3)All of my childhood Thanksgivings were spent at my maternal grandparents house. They had sort of a farm in Trussville with horses and chickens. All the cousins and lots of trees to climb, it was great and my grandfather always did this thing we have now named the"fart jig". We put alot of fun in dysfunctional!!

4)The last thing that made me laugh til I cried was searching for band names on the automatic band name web site with the guys at work- we all laughed til we leaked.

5)$100- Ryan and I really need a date but I would give it to the church (I think we're behind in our tithe- BAD CHRISTIANS!!)

What a fun blog!

Here are my answers:
1. Definitely the scrapbooks and the family history research my husband has done. I guess that's two things...well for me, it'd be the scrapbooks.

2. When I was younger and "Who's the Boss" was still on, I often got told I looked like Alyssa Milano. Then, while in college when "Lois and Clark" was the cool show, I was told I looked like Teri Hatcher all the time...especially since I had the same haircut. I get told that a bit now that she's more visible again, but since I have gained a lot of weight and she is teeny tiny, not nearly as often as before, LOL.

3. I'm not sure...all Thanksgivings kind of run together for me, but that's what I love about it. Always having mom's yummy jello salad, watching the parade and football, the fire in the fireplace...

4. The other day we were watching some of our home videos. there was one of my daughter who was then 18 months old, wearing lipstick. She thought she had to hold her lips in a pucker the whole time she had it on. Just watching that (DH filmed her sitting there watching TV and puckering the lips for several minutes) made me laugh so hard I cried.

5. On the slipcover I'm dying to get for my couch.

That was long...thanks for visiting my blog, and thanks for the fun "random Tuesday"
