Some Humor for Super Bowl Sunday

It's EARLY Sunday morning (right around midnight) and the house is finally quiet (well, except for the occasional sniffle-sniffle and hack-hack from Gary, who is doing his best impression of Sick Husband!). Thought I'd pop on to send you a link to the man who I think is seriously the funniest man in America--Dave Barry. I can read his columns and literally be laughing out loud so bad that I am crying and blowing things out of my nose (ask Gary about it, because I read a column to him the other day and could not finish sentences for laughing so hard).

Being a comedian is one thing, or even being a comedic actor. But to be a funny writer is a real accomplishment I think, because the only thing connecting the writer and the reader is the word. To be able to communicate humor simply through words--and not with expressions or physical humor or acting--is a pretty cool thing to do.

Dave is in Miami, the home of tomorrow's (well, today's) Super Bowl, so he's been writing columns for almost two weeks now about the Super Bowl and what it means for it be in South Florida. The following, called "Confuse the Midwesterners: Be on your best behavior," was one of my favorites.

It starts out like this:

"I
t's here, South Florida -- Super Bowl Roman Numeral 41, the biggest sporting event in the world, unless you include other parts of the world. Tens of thousands of visitors are coming to South Florida for the big game, and we hope they all enjoy -- to quote our new tourism slogan -- ``Hospitality, But Without The Hospital.''

But to make that dream a reality, we, the citizens of South Florida, must be on our best behavior.

Q. What do you mean, ``on our best behavior?''

A. I mean that, no matter how festive we are feeling, we should not shoot our guns into the air.

Q. What if Fidel dies?

A. That is different."

Read the rest HERE or go to www.DaveBarry.com to enjoy all of his archived columns. He is one funny guy!!

And, by the way, I'll be cheering for the Colts!

Enjoying your blog! It's supposed to get down to -34 where I live. Isn't that ridiculous? Insane.

Have a great Super Bowl Sunday. Myself, I'm going gambling since I'm not a fan of either team this year.

It's literally pandamonium here in Indy, people are taking off their clothes, dancing, jumping on cars, and of course drunk. How else can you explain getting naked when it's 2 degrees! IDIOTS!

It started at midnight here and i saw the opening touchdown and it was all down hill after that...We did manage to uphold tradition and have buffalo wings but the time difference is a joy killer!

I just noticed that you are a writer. Me too! I just posted about it on my blog.

I love Dave Barry! I don't ever get to read him anymore but maybe now I can, now that I know he has a website!

One of my boyfriends in high school had an ongoing competition with his dad. They would each try to read the entire column without smiling or laughing. No easy feat!
