A Message from Sydney (err, Scout...err, Sydney...err, never mind)

Sydney (or whatever you want to call her) would like to give you a little update on her first full week of kindergarten. If she had the amazing 5-year-old ability to type proficiently, she would no doubt tell you the following (which she actually told me, and I transcribed):

"I really liked my first week of kindergarten. The first best part was meeting new friends, like Brianna, and Abigail, and Bobbie Jean, and the girl Dylan. The second best part was naptime, because you can get really tired and they let you sleep. The third best part was lunchtime."

(Concerned that she is only going to be a socializing, playing, and eating kindergartener, I asked her if she learned anything this week.)

"I learned to spell red R-E-D. And green is G-R-E-E-N. And yellow is Y-E-L-L-O-W. And brown is B-R-O-W-N. And I already know that blue is azul.

And I like to do my homework. I'm doing mine as soon as I get home today. (I was interviewing her in the car on the way home from school this afternoon, and I told her that it's Friday so she didn't need to do her homework until tomorrow or even Sunday. But, nope, she went ahead and did it. And speaking of homework, let me let her tell you about how she signs her homework and her schoolwork.)

"At first I wrote Sydney. But then on the fourth day and the fifth day, I wrote Scout."

(She apparently also has issues--like we do--with her name. We love both of her names so much!)

(I had to ask her one final question, which I knew all of you in Blogland would be interested in. I had to ask her if she got into trouble at all this first week.)

"I got a yellow dot yesterday [they either get happy stickers, or yellow dots, or red dots in their parent-teacher folder everyday], and it said too much talking. I had to stay out of recess for just a few minutes and then I got to go play. But today I got another sticker. (Insert big smile here)."

(Why did she talk so much? I asked her.)

"We can talk in the lunchroom, unless a teacher says it's yellow light time. We can talk all we want on the playground. But in the class there is silent time. And sometimes Mrs. White puts on a timer when we have to be quiet. But sometimes I just want to talk to my friends."

(Well put, Sydney. I'm not sure if I could have explained your first week of kindergarten any better myself. And, yes, this will hopefully make it onto a scrapbook page sometime soon.)

too, too cute! And this post makes me wonder, does she speak with a southern accent? I picture her with a little Alabama accent in there somewhere.

:)

Doesn't get any better than new friends and naptime and g-r-e-e-n. I'd probably have lived in yellow dot land b/c of my talking.

Laura--It turned out SO much better than I anticipated. I was so sentimental all week and I was just so afraid that she wouldn't adjust well. But...it all worked out. :-)

Gretchen--LOL I would have too!!
